The Four Primes
To resolve tension coherently, the framework derives four fundamental operators. These are genuinely irreducible — like prime numbers, they cannot be built from anything simpler. Each introduces a new axis of capability.

Developmental Sequences
Operators unfold in mandatory order — not by convention, but by logical necessity. You cannot relate before you distinguish. You cannot reflect before you have content to reflect upon.

Active engagement — Categorize, sustain. The system begins to act on what it perceives.

Reflective organization — Meta-process, bind across levels, resolve. The system becomes aware of itself.
In consciousness research, this maps directly to brain architecture: posterior cortex handles basic content (Operators 2–6), frontal regions handle reflection (Operator 7), interareal synchrony handles cross-level binding (Operator 8). The sequence isn’t imposed on the brain — it emerges from the logic of orientation capacity.
Step 4 of 4
The Consilience
The same organizational grammar, derived independently from multiple domains. Each domain examined on its own terms, using its own evidence, before any comparison is made.
